I love The Cannon for how confidence inspiring the design is. Its directly based off a series of hawaiian style (thinner and more high performance than Nor Cal style) Eric Awakawa guns he made for me during the Andy Irons era. I've tried lots of other designs but keep coming back to these because they feel like the board already knows how to surf, all I have to do is calm my nerves and paddle. A lot of guns feel hard to turn or slow to accelerate and this design is the opposite of those. Effortless glide into the drop and easy to navigate this thing makes big waves fun.
On guns its all about the bottom contours and these things have a lot going on. Basically though its a spiral V leading into a brief single under your front foot and then goes flat through the top half of the board. This makes it paddle like crazy, maintain control at crazy speed, and makes it quick enough rail to rail that it still carves well when you find opportunities to throw in a turn. I also make the rails really hard in the tail so that this thing flies but tuck them enough that you don't lose control.
Smaller versions of it work well as thrusters or quads, as you get above 8ft in length I'd consider just going for a quad setup for maximum speed and hold.
-Confidence inspiring user friendly performance
-Massive paddling power
-Quick acceleration and high top speed
-Lots of control but still carves like a dream
-Works well as a thruster or quad (quad is better for bigger versions)
-Recommend getting with a heavy glass job and 1/2" stringer
